Boston – Logan Airport

Hey, well… Hello everyone, I’m Devon Price. Some of you may know me as the host of the Miskatonic University YouTube Channel, the “Miskatonic Minute,” but Director Pickman asked me to take over the blog here. I didn’t know anyone did these anymore, but here we are.

Director Pickman said we keep this up because many of our expeditions are in places with minimal Internet access. So, we have it as a fallback way of keeping everyone up-to-date on our global expeditions, no matter where they are.

I assumed we had invested in a few Starlink units by now, but apparently not.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m a graduate student in Social Media Studies at Miskatonic University. Well, the Arkham campus of the University of Boston. It used to be called “Miskatonic” way back in the 20th century, but we’ve been part of the University of Boston for some time now. But… there’s a lot of nostalgia here for the old name, so the students and staff still use it.

As I said, I usually run the YouTube channel, but there is a group of scientists and researchers out in Australia of all places, and Director Pickman thought that we should have someone reporting on it. Someone who could “connect with the current generation on the Internet better than a bunch of old scientists.” So he asked if I was interested and… of course! I’ll happily spend a Summer Quarter in Australia! Especially since he said that I would get full course credit for it. All I have to do is keep these updates coming. Daily. So… easy?

Director Pickman. Dr. Pickman is actually my faculty advisor as well. I should have disclosed that. He teaches visual media courses and runs the University’s Social Media program.

Kaitlin Stewart will be running the YouTube channel while I’m gone. All of you be kind to her, OK? She’s done some segments for me in the past, and I’m sure she’ll settle into my position with no trouble.

Oh yeah, the quick handover. Dr. Pickman asked if I was interested this morning after class, then, when I said ‘yes,’ he handed me a plane ticket and told me to get packed.

So, full disclosure: I’m sitting at Logan International typing this while waiting for my flight. He gave me this laptop and told me to use it to make these uploads. I barely had time to grab what I thought I might need, tell my roommate where I was going, and rush to the airport.

This laptop does have a heavy satellite modem with it and a solar power pack that will keep it running anywhere. Director Pickman told me to never let it out of my sight, so it is my main carry-on. I have a small bag with at least a change of clothes, but otherwise, that is it.

And this thing is heavy.

OK, they just called my section. I can’t say I’m looking forward to sitting in an airplane seat for about a dozen hours, but here we are. I’m putting this into airplane mode to take notes along the way. If anything happens that is worth talking about. Otherwise? Talk to all of you when I land in Sydney.
